Research underpins practice

In addition to artistic inspiration and all that involved, I also spend time researching many areas of the science that underpins my practice. Take for instance the picture collage I completed today, a 11 x 9 ins piece:-

“Anomaly 2,” 2019.

I found a book “lost” since moving several years ago, titled “Brains, the mind as matter” by Marius Kwint and Richard Windgate. Where on reading the historical brain studies I came across a German neurologist, Korbinian Brodmann and his 1909 drawings of the cerebral cortex, from which I used as a starting place for the above painting. I’m sure I’m going to find many more points as I read this book that will give future direction in my art practice.
